Hah — [ Yelena, still clinging to Natasha, huffs a bitter laugh. Because while that all sounds nice and romantic and more than that, heroic — just the sort of thing that matches the kind of image Natasha has built for herself since she escaped the Red Room and joined the Avengers — Yelena doesn't care about any of it.
What she wants is selfish, sure, but she has never tried to align herself to any kind of moral code but her own. She just wants to be free to make her own decisions, to be her own person — to learn what the hell all of that even means.
(And, okay, if it means doing something nice once in a while, she can maybe be okay with that too.)
And more than that, she just wants more time with her family now that she's found them again. She just wanted more time with her sister; she wanted to smudge their cover stories away, to create real ones. And that was taken away from them too soon. Maybe not by Clint's hand, if she can believe him, but it was still too soon. ]
And how are you back now, then? [ She doesn't ask if Natasha is back for good. She isn't sure she wants to know the answer, if it's not the one she wants to hear. ] If you know what happened to you?
