It’s literal - depending on your definition of a god. Which… means it’s also semantics. Monotheistic religions have the God, and their definition tends to be a bit more specific than polytheistic religions, which have a looser definition of godhood that falls somewhere around the definition of a metahuman - some superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over humanity in whatever way. I add immortality into the mix. I - wow, I didn’t realize I had opinions on this.
