It is best to get them through at least basic obedience training if you don't have the time and patience to do it yourself. Pongo's very calm for his breed, so he's probably got a calmer breed mixed in there somewhere even if he looks purebred. I got him from a shelter when he was still a puppy.

I figured having a therapy dog would help when my patients were having a difficult time talking things through. [He gives a little shrug.] I work in a small town, so I run double duty as a psychologist. Having the medical degree is mostly so that if medicine is needed to help manage problems outside of just having somewhere safe to talk, I can prescribe it instead of having to send them to another specialist.
