SEPTEMBER EVENT WORKSHOP
EVENT WORKSHOP
The year is 1985 and in a few short weeks the world will never be the same ... And the citizens of this world are unaware that their lives are soon to change.
The Central City of 1985 will be a smoking crater, and it will be about forty more years before they see another Confluence. During those forty years, the booming metahuman population in this world will begin to dwindle. Their abilities will weaken, and the Alliance and Society will be formed to appease the governmental bodies that would otherwise crack down on the vulnerable remnants of the metahuman population. This is the world that many of the Starfallen have come to know very well.
But that world – and its future – has not yet come to pass. In fact, with your intervention, it may never come to pass.
The big thing is this: you could stop the event known as Godfall from ever coming to pass. The teenage hero at the heart of that event, Starstruck, isn't that difficult to find. He's always rushing around town to rescue cats from trees and help little old ladies cross the street. It's difficult to imagine this boy nearly caused an apocalypse ... then again, it was difficult to believe Chaos Gate could do the same not too long ago.
You could do a lot of good for the future here – that is, if you're comfortable knowing that you're meddling in what's already come before. Every action you take will have an impact on not just your future, but the very future of this world.
Even if you'd prefer not to step on too many butterflies, one thing is certain: Chaos Gate isn't that concerned with the consequences of her actions. If she's allowed to lash out indiscriminately, her power will continue to have a detrimental effect on this world that leaves a scar on time and space; left unchecked, there may be nothing left to save.
➢ Welcome to the time travel event! We designed this event to allow our players to shape the future of the game, as your characters' actions will directly impact the world of the game as it proceeds forward.
➢ This is set in a time before the Guilds. Superheroes and supervillains do not have to adhere to a common code or creed. In fact, this is a very dangerous time to be a metahuman. Superheroes regularly kill, and supervillains get even. Collateral damage occurs on a daily basis in the larger cities, and few people seem to care enough to help.
➢ Everyone will be able to time travel! A portal will appear with the log on September 20th, 2023.
➢ With that said, we're encouraging our player characters to invent time travel to connect the past and future. This is because the initial trip into the past is a one-way trip. But hey – no big deal, right? This is a superhero game, and time travel is not the most unheard of thing here.
➢ Our big goal here is to give our players plenty of runway to decide the shape of things in game. Your characters' actions will directly impact the world and have a lasting impact on the future of the game. We intend for this event to be player-plot heavy and will depend upon characters taking initiative to get the ball rolling. Go wild! We're always more than happy to adjust the event timeline to accommodate all that you're hoping to accomplish with this event.
➢ Nothing is off-limits. Want to stop the Godfall event? That can be done. But past versions of vital NPCs can also be killed if you feel that makes sense for your character. All actions will be taken into account as we enter the next arc of the game.
➢ Some suggestions to get you started are below – but don't feel like you have to limit yourself to these!
➢ Combine your abilities and create a way back to the future / a way to bring your friends to the past! We are happy to have players build their own time machines that can be kept after the event - though this is most likely the only occasion where their actions will impact the Metaheroes canon timeline.
There are two mod comments on this entry – one to help us work with you on the event, and one to help us begin some brainstorming for after the event.
The first, MOD QUESTIONS / SETTING IMPACT, you can ask anything that would require our attention! We're here to answer any questions that come to mind – whether they have to do with 1985's world or helping you to know what you can do plot-wise. Feel free to hit us up to explore options! Everything you bring up here will directly impact the event log when it's live so that we can give you everything you'd like to explore (and more!). We absolutely encourage everyone to discuss any plot ideas in the rest of the post to get the ball rolling.
The second, WORLD CHANGES AND AFTERMATH, is going to be used for you to suggest anything you have in mind for the game going forward. Are there any themes you'd like to explore? What about improvements you'd like to see? We're also happy to hear what you'd like in future events, and what changes you'd be interested in seeing in the game's setting. No idea is a bad idea. If you like someone else's suggestion, feel free to +1 it. There is also a space to provide feedback of this type in the plotting form, and we would appreciate any time you take to share your feedback. If you end up needing to add it later, feel free to do it under your comment – we'll be keeping an eye on things.
No changes will be going into effect without the playerbase being notified. Once the event concludes, we will have a write-up detailing what the new future will be like and the timelines will be integrated. This is not a reboot of the game! Player character actions will remain canon and NPCs will still remember what characters have done! However certain aspects of the world may change depending on player actions!
As always, if anything major is requested, we'll ask for further feedback before implementing it!

Player Wants: What do you want to get out of this event? Do you want to find more friends for your character that they can stick with long term? Are you looking for a team of heroes for your character? Do you want them to dig into the plot, potentially pulling in other characters to assist? Is there something other characters can help provide so that your character can push forward with their plans?
The Future: What would you like to see in the next arc of the game? This can be anything from whether you would like to see more opportunities to interact with NPCs, changes to the setting you would like, to the tone/genre of the next arcs of the game. Starstruck may remind Ororo of the students she's had at Xavier's throughout the years. It's clear that Starstruck wants to do good, and is by all accounts doing so - but it's clear to a skilled teacher that he may have more power than he knows how to handle. The boy has only scratched the surface of what he can do, and he's in dire need of a teacher. He's quick to show off what he can do once anyone shows interest.
And he's painting an awful big target on his back as he edges into more serious crime-thwarting.

Guild Affiliation: Unaffiliated with a slight favor towards Society
Event Planning: Donnie's started off on the find Chaos Gate train and is probably going to see that through. He's ducked into the past and may be experiencing internet and phone withdrawals as he tries to get things together.
Potential Roles: Donnie has Concerns about the Confluences being done away with. It's screwing up a lot of things even when it's nonexistent, so it is very annoying. Also he'd very much like to not be stuck in a world that may implode. He is honestly not sure what he'd be able to do regarding Chaos Gate and is hoping they can talk her down rather than clash, considering how powerful she is. He might be limited in the past with tech physically but he's still got his mystic-tech and can be pretty creative with how to apply it, not strictly for offensive purposes.
Player Wants: More teamups are always fun. This stuff is always the best opportunity to bounce him off of other people, and I am always interested in plunging into plot things. Please drag him into more plot things.
The Future: NPC interaction is always fun, I love whenever the opportunity is there, even if I may not immediately think of how to do so. I'm not sure what to suggest otherwise for more specific ideas, I'm very much just one to roll with the punches and have been enjoying the twists in these recent developments.

Event Planning: Accy's traveled back to the past during the first portal opening on September 1st (without informing his cr, sorry guys, please yell at him for poor life decisions), so he'll be stuck in the 1980s for pretty much the entire event. Chaos Gate is his boss and he was involved in beating Fantastic, so he wants to find her as he's worried about her mental state.
Potential Roles: Since Accelerator's main motivation is finding Chaos Gate he's available for cr with any other characters doing the same. He'll likely be on Chaos Gate's side and would try to prevent any harm coming to her, which includes fighting and killing if it comes down to it. He'd also be down for killing cultists, those guys suck.
Regarding building time travel, if there are any characters stuck in the past who need support involving quantum mechanics, Accy can help! He's a big math nerd.
Finally, he's also around for any general 80s shenanigans. He's only 15 so he's never experienced the 1980s before, and as a villain he's already been going around doing villainous things. I need to get him a punk leather jacket for the aesthetic.
Player Wants: Mainly focusing on Chaos Gate, but he was in the past for all of 5 minutes before doing crimes lol. So far in the thread he's broken an ATM for some money, broken into a jail and knocked people around, as well as causing a lot of property damage as he busts Mechanima out. If any heroes want to deal with the fallout/repercussions of a surly teenager immediately causing problems that could be fun.
The Future: Lmao totally missed this part of the plotting. I think a break from big world-shaking events and some more slice-of-life/daily heroics kind of stuff would be nice. Especially if the world's status quo is shaken up after this event, it'd be good to have a few months where the characters can get settled in and adjust, interact with NPCs to see how they've changed and so on. I love me some silly holiday mingles and beach episodes.

Event Planning: Leo went back in time with the first portal and has been living his best 80s life. More importantly, though, he's already made contact with Starstruck and got invited to his hideout. I'm still seeing how that pans out but basically he's making connections.
I'm open to just about any past shenanigans besides dealing with Starstruck! But I'm probably going to keep my biggest focus on the Godfell event - unfortunately, time travel in order to stop an apocalypse is something Leo has experience with.
Potential Roles: Leo can fight and teleport, and he's also got some of that shounen jump hero energy so that may be beneficial in some way. Really I'm a bit open to anything right now, though.
Player Wants: More friends or people Leo can turn to is always good. In general, Leo's been coming into himself a bit more as a leader all the time and I'm always looking for more ways to play with that. People who can teach Leo useful skills is also appreciated - he has someone to teach him medic skills now but he could always benefit from more.
The Future: uhhhh I'm a little no thoughts head empty on this topic but I would love to see a continued mix of more laidback events with more serious events. I am hoping that the native metas get their abilities restored after this because there's a player plot I wanted to do with an NPC bad guy but outside of that uhhhh idk I'm kinda down for whatever haha

Guild Affiliation: Unaligned
Event Planning: Sephiroth is staying put in the present because he doesn't trust the Willow Maiden after having met her all of 1 time, and also he's not really against Chaos Gate killing the Shining God.
Potential Roles: Sephiroth has proposed using the Sunset Falls library to relay messages, and could maybe work on helping to open travel/communication between timelines! Do they need to recharge the Willow Maiden? Maybe there are volumes in the library's occult section that could be used to help or the weird energy of Sunset Falls itself could prove useful?
Additionally, Sephiroth is not a fan of heroics, if you want someone for your character to butt heads with over plans to change the timeline. He won't travel to the past but he might try to talk people out of certain actions or even physically prevent them from going.
Player Wants: Mainly I think coordinating between timelines could be fun! I'm always open to new CR of any kind.
The Future: I'm expecting this will shake up the composition of the Guilds at least somewhat, and I'd like to see what they settle into in the aftermath-- and whether that's something Sephiroth will still oppose. Depending on how much is changed in the past, I also wonder if certain plots like the Fixer's brainwashing will technically never have happened, even if everyone involved remembers them. Would characters still condone revenge for a memory?
Generally speaking I do think we need a bit of a breather from the more intense wide-reaching plots after this! Time to chill, process, and strengthen CR.

Event Planning: Balthier is going to be too wary of losing the life he has here or either him or David carrying too much burden on their shoulders.
However, if he can send people back with magical objects or give them info about his experience in the simulation a year and a half ago regarding Starstruck, he'll share it.
Potential Roles: Mentor/cool guy with a bag of tricks. He'd also have ideas on relaying messages or how to track or break in places.
The Future: Also echoing some more laid back/fun events with time to process, build new CR, and lower consequences. The big events have been great! But I'm feeling ready for something like the ridiculous snapchat villains from one of the confluences, or silly spells/mix-up type prompts.
I'd like to be able to travel back to home world again for personal CR, and for a plottier thing, maybe the option to bring people from other AUs (I know there'd been something about going to different points on their own timeline) here for safety? IDK if that fits in with stuff, but I def feel like after being in the game from the start, Balthier is naturally wanting to either settle in for real or determine this world is untenable. Too much upheaval too often makes it feel like the latter.

Guild Affiliation: unaffiliated
Event Planning: Diana went back into the past already with Bruce, Dick, and Roy. While in the past, she went to seek aid from Eros, and wound up agreeing to be his divine champion. I'm sure nothing will come of that down the line.
Also, she and Bruce hooked up, but no one's talking about it.Eros gave her a map that will let her find Chaos Gate 'when the time is right,' along with a bow and quiver of magic-resistant arrows.Potential Roles: Diana brings a number of her own abilities to the table: she's a diplomat and a warrior with god-level strengths, and she has in her possession the lasso of truth, which allows her to essentially create a space where she can speak with the person in the lasso within their soul, itself. If she can get the lasso around Chaos Gate, she can have a conversation with the god without worrying about having to fight during it.
(She is also vulnerable while this happens, and it's possible CG could turn it against her in a way that knocks Diana out of the fight.)
Added to all this, she now has a divine request from the God of Love to help mend CG's broken heart, if she can. That will be her priority: trying to talk to CG and help her calm down. If that doesn't work, she's prepared to fight.
Player Wants: Between her powers, her compassion, her personality, and her status as Eros' champion Diana is pretty uniquely qualified to deal with CG, so it would be great to see what might happen if she manages to get CG in the lasso or talks to her. On the other hand, I know Diana is extremely OP compared to most of the others back in the past, and there are plenty of ways to knock her out of the fight if someone else wants to go up against CG. Basically, I would love to see everyone get the badass moments they want in this event!
The Future: Some downtime would be great, since Diana only just came into the game and needs to meet more people. I want to see what might come out of her being Eros' champion, and it would be fun to see if she could find this world's version of Themyscira, if it exists. I'm hoping to work out some player plots to take advantage of whatever changes happen to the world after the event.
