APRIL PLOT WORKSHOP & APRIL EVENT PLANNING

PLOT WORKSHOP

GUIDELINES
In lieu of a CR meme, Meta Heroes will be holding bi-monthly plot workshops. These memes are designed to help players brainstorm, develop, and shape their character arcs and personal plots into something that engages them. (If players feel that this meme is not serving the function of a traditional CR meme and would like to see the inclusion of a more traditional CR meme in the future, please reach out to us!)

Players with player plot and character arc ideas — no matter how pie in the sky or early in development — should post top levels to this entry using the form below. These posts will include character hooks and motivations, general plot ideas, and potential roles in others' plots.

Your ideas can be as specific or as general as you want — e.g., "I want my character to start pursuing politics" or "I want to run a plot where Spider-Man takes down a serial bank robber who's funding meta-drug experiments on children." This is not the place to censor yourself! Put it all out there!

What we do want to impress is more specific posts will make plotting smoother. Try to avoid 'down for anything' posts and comments — if you do not feel you have specific ideas to throw out, we encourage you to simply tag around and collaborate with others. This meme can't succeed without both posts and replies!

In addition to player replies, the mods will have two top levels.

The first, MOD QUESTIONS, is a space for players to ask clarifying questions about things like player plot tier of certain ideas and the ability to impact aspects of the setting or world in substantial ways, or event related questions and sign-ups. We can provide quicker approvals on these memes to help get things rolling to a player plot submission.

The second, SETTING IMPACT, is a space for players to pitch larger-scale plots (including those that they may not want to run themselves, or that they don't have a character who can spearhead). This section is for players to brainstorm and collaborate on big ways to engage and alter the setting. We encourage players to think creatively! We will also offer our two cents where possible, but if you feel something needs our attention, feel free to drop a direct link to the comment in the 'mod questions' header too.

EVENT PREVIEW
To facilitate your plotting for the coming month, here's a quick preview of the April event! The Alliance Expo will take place in Central City. Your opt-out option is to not attend the Expo.

The Alliance Expo is an annual event held by the Guardian Alliance in Central City. More than simply celebrating superheroism, it celebrates metahuman ability and ingenuity and is open to everyone, regardless of affilation. This is where new members of the Guardian Alliance and The Society may have their first true public debut. Likewise, Unaffiliated metas are encouraged to subtly mingle with each other.

As this is open to the non-meta public, there's a fairly sizable vendors hall. Player characters can find knock-off merchandise of themselves being sold. Along with other gadgets and trinkets that make heroism worth it.

There is also an annual tradition in which the members of the guild participate in a loosely scripted wrestling match in which the newest members of both organizations can show off their powers and get to know their potential opponents. Players are free to come up with their own scripts - from the extremely over the top, to the grim, dark and scary. It’s all in good fun and not a requirement, and is meant to show that even divided there is unity between the metahuman community.

The Society be rolling out new branding - they’re dropping of Villainous Reformation from their name.

This year's event is centered around the history of the Godfall Event, the nearest the world ever got to an apocalypse, albeit this is a heavily sanitized and commercialized version. This event occurred on April 3rd, 1985. Players can get a glimpse into the event that made this world and founded these guild systems. There is a VR simulation where anyone can step into the shoes of the hundreds of metahumans present that day... just don't look up how many of them are still around.

The event will culminate in a VR simulation being hijacked by extremists. Any characters within the VR room will find the simulation losing its fun edge and becomes a true recreation of that day. The world is about to end and it's up to you to stop it at all costs. Player characters may find themselves being influenced by the AI of the role they're inhabiting. The feelings of these AI recreations will layer over the character's own emotions and may feel sudden bonds with other player characters who are inhabiting the role of someone their avatar knows - friends, family, lovers, nemeses. Others may find themselves being at the epicenter of the blast, taking the role of Starstruck himself - suddenly against their friends and family and unable to stop.

Players are completely free to make up their own heroes for this event. If you would like something mod generated, please comment here.

Players may also sign up for the chance to take on the role of any of the existing guild leaders - Frances Startling, Atomight, and Mechanima - and get a glimpse into what they were doing that day and how it shaped their worldview.

peter parker (616) ; in which we learn we should pre-write these things next time

[personal profile] interloping 2022-04-11 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name & Journal: peter parker ([personal profile] interloping)
Guild Affiliation: at the moment unaffiliated, probably going to officially declare his un-affiliation by kick-out time, but i just need to work out those kinks

Plot/CR Hooks:
• spider-man is your friendly neighbourhood superhero, even if this is not the neighbourhood he's used to! this means he'll be pretty frequently found where trouble is afoot, particularly when it affects regular civilians. he currently lives in central city so it's likely that's where he'll be most easily spotted, but i'm happy to have him go where the trouble is for those short daytrips, or if someone knows of his reputation, he's always down for a classic team-up in whatever city requires his help.

• as for the expo, there's a small chance he won't attend, and if he does, he'll most likely attend as peter parker rather than spider-man just to ... see what's afoot, check out the other ridiculous costumes, maybe check out the state of knock-off merch based on his likeness (or the likeness of his 800 other alts). this is all subject to change, depending on what i vibe with though.

• as an aside: tbh since i've brought him into the game he's been in costume almost exclusively, so it'll be kind of a neat little change to mingle with supers who don't know what he looks like beneath the mask, even if they might know he's a 'peter parker'; will i go one level more and give him an alias like peter palmer? (if u kno u kno) perhaps! i'm kind of just spitballing as i go.

Character Motivations:
• like many others here, his main goal is going to be finding his way back to his own timeline/universe, but for now ...

• this is gonn' sound real cheesy but, honestly? just to keep doing what he's doing: helping people, especially the ones that can't help themselves. spidey lives by the 'great power, great responsibility' mantra and even a world-change won't shake his resolve to do his best with what he's got. he has absolutely no desire to be some kind of celebrity superhero — he'll leave his younger counterparts to that kinda thing — but his being recognizable even here does make doing things a little low-key harder to accomplish. it may also help boost his voice though, so who knows?

• we do not have the time to unpack the emotional needs peter parker has that aren't being fulfilled at the moment l m a o, but i do have to say his run-in with otto octavius has dredged up some trauma he hasn't dealt with at all, and has been pushing that aside for being quippy and heroic, so idk he'll probably need to seek some therapy for that later.

Potential Roles:
• spider-man is the reliable, quippy superhero of his self-titled canon, so he's got all of the makings of a relatable hero with great support/side characters, awesome (and dumb) villains, and so. much. manpain. he is also totally a science whiz and nerd at heart.

• however!!!! spider-man and peter parker has also been known to be an excellent collaborative character, mostly a team player, a definite tension-lightener, and all around ridiculous buddy to have on any kind of team-up or quest. he also makes great cookies — just ask gil!

• he is also a great mentor and teacher and this is actually one of my favourite things about 616, and the thing i like to lean into the most. he'll most likely be keeping an eye on his alts, especially as they're all varying degrees of younger and messier than he is at his current point (not to say his own life isn't messy), and while he won't reach out to them (no one likes a hover-parent), he'll leave himself available for mentoring or even advice. this also applies to any superhero, young or old, who might be having some struggles and could use a spider-ear. (please everyone anywhere ever: always feel free to drop a random text or note into spidey's inbox!)

• speaking of which: getting his attention is as easy as illuminating the sky with the spider signal dropping a line on his social media.

Plot Ideas:
• i'm always down for a good superheroic team-up. i don't have any concrete ideas at the moment but i'm keen to get roped into anyone else's plots and ideas for any team-ups, small-to-large scale. petty crimes? mobsters? alien invasions? apocalypses? he's got all of that previous experience down on his cv.

• and any kind of mentoring, teaching opportunity.

• a guy to run your best jokes by. (aka if you want a friend, he's a great friend.)

Roles Needed:
• old friends, new friends, kiddos, new heroes who might be low-key struggling with their newfound powers, old heroes he can gripe with.

• i'm not a huge fan of negative cr for negative cr's sake, but i do enjoy that push/pull tension, and headbutting that could lead to really juicy, complicated cr down the road — especially if that cr involves begrudging friendships, or alliances made in the future.

• no real keen need or want for anything shippy at the moment, as spidey's mostly trying to settle in if he's gonna be here for the longer-haul, but i'm open to it.

yelena belova (mcu) ; in which i apologize for being so absent w/her so far ... #life amirite

[personal profile] siracha 2022-04-11 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name & Journal: yelena belova ([personal profile] siracha)
Guild Affiliation: none, and she'll coast until she has to decide too X(

Plot/CR Hooks:
• a lot of yelena's activities at the beginning will be on gathering intel about this world: history, maps, lore, the guilds themselves, etc. she'll probably be living in the local libraries and sometimes be chatting amiably with the locals.

• probably also shopping trips. girl loves her pattern-clashing wardrobe.

• i had this silly idea to have her working at a local coffee shop (in central city for now but that may change, idk yet — it'll depend on where her sister is at) as a cover to get the scoop on people who come in and get their morning cuppa on the regs, and build up a reputation as this totally normal, very friendly barista. 😊😊😊 (who could then kill you with a single move, no hesitation, but shh.)

• and generally she won't be engaging in superhero-type activities because she doesn't consider herself a superhero by any means. the goody-two-shoes way of life is also ... really not for her. but that doesn't mean she won't get involved if the cause is right (or her sister is involved. or maybe even that old man kate likes so much.) but also! the expo! i haven't decided if she'll go just to check it out, or to find some hilarious poser superhero merch she can buy and tease certain people about later. you know, #littlesisterthings

• she also had no superpowers back home, but since the confluence, she's developed a few. a lot of it boosts her already-existing abilities, but in a way that might actually trip her up as it plays a lot with manipulating gravity and her affects on it and their effects on her. would love to get some superheroes involved in training her, or for her to make a few powers-related mistakes along the way.

Character Motivations:
• initially yelena wanted to go home, but i think at this moment in time, she'll want to fully take advantage of all of the extra time she gets with her sister c': so. putting home-plans on hold for now.

• a lot of what yelena grapples with now is making her own choices, having her own freedom and autonomy, and figuring out what to do with it.

• emotionally, she just needs to feel like her own person again, and to get to know some genuine people. i'd love for her to actually be able to build some trust with a few people, have actual friends. they don't have to necessarily be good people either, they just need to keep it real.

Potential Roles:
• mostly yelena will do what she wants if she thinks its worth her time. she'll otherwise be harder to get a hold of.

• she doesn't consider herself neither a superhero or an antagonist; she's mostly just doing her own thing but she's absolutely open to recruitment and can be convinced to join a cause if said cause appeals.

• i definitely still want her to hold onto her own more ex-widow, grey-area assassin roots if only because it's the thing she's most comfortable with; if there are any situations that require a mercenary or someone who can spy or infiltrate other factions and pay good $$ to do so, there's a high chance yelena will take the gig, no questions asked. (hey, she might be trying for that self-fulfillment good stuff but these things take time and a girl's gotta eat!)

• she is an extremely skilled, violent combatant in a fight. she also has these new superpowers she's acquired through the confluence, which she needs to get a little more practice with. (see above!)

Plot Ideas:
• would love for her to get roped into any plots that force her to kind of be? a superhero? and see that it's not so bad, maybe could even make her feel kinda good (she does get a fulfillment from helping others out, which is witnessed by her mission to free all her fellow widows! even if yes, that was also a very personal crusade for her).

• i don't want to get too deep into it, but any of her own power fuck-ups having an effect on some small party or some small area, or feed into some greater thing would be interesting? i haven't thought too much about it yet, but it's been a thing on my mind.

Roles Needed:
• superheroes and also villainous/grey-area types could be cool to vibe with for this especially.

• but also any kind of closer cr could have an effect on what she decides to do with her own life choices, and the kind of person she wants to be.

• again, i'm not really into negative cr for the sake of negative cr's sake, but i do love a good complicated push-and-pull cr.

• also not especially looking for anything shippy, and it'd probably take her some time to get to trust someone in a level of intimacy that lets her whole self be known, but! she's probably down for a good time; real surface-level stuff.

SORRY I AM SO FULL OF TL;DR wow
