FEBRUARY CR MEME & PLOT WORKSHOP

PLOT WORKSHOP

Guidelines
In lieu of a CR meme, Meta Heroes will be holding bi-monthly plot workshops. These memes are designed to help players brainstorm, develop, and shape their character arcs and personal plots into something that engages them. (If players feel that this meme is not serving the function of a traditional CR meme and would like to see the inclusion of a more traditional CR meme in the future, please reach out to us!)

Players with player plot and character arc ideas — no matter how pie in the sky or early in development — should post top levels to this entry using the form below. These posts will include character hooks and motivations, general plot ideas, and potential roles in others' plots.

Your ideas can be as specific or as general as you want — e.g., "I want my character to start pursuing politics" or "I want to run a plot where Spider-Man takes down a serial bank robber who's funding meta-drug experiments on children." This is not the place to censor yourself! Put it all out there!

What we do want to impress is more specific posts will make plotting smoother. Try to avoid 'down for anything' posts and comments — if you do not feel you have specific ideas to throw out, we encourage you to simply tag around and collaborate with others. This meme can't succeed without both posts and replies!

In addition to player replies, the mods will have two top levels.

The first, MOD QUESTIONS, is a space for players to ask clarifying questions about things like player plot tier of certain ideas and the ability to impact aspects of the setting or world in substantial ways. We can provide quicker approvals on these memes to help get things rolling to a player plot submission.

The second, SETTING IMPACT, will have a form for players to pitch larger-scale plots (including those that they may not want to run themselves, or that they don't have a character who can spearhead). This section is for players to brainstorm and collaborate on big ways to engage and alter the setting. We encourage players to think creatively! We will also offer our two cents where possible, but if you feel something needs our attention, feel free to drop a direct link to the comment in the 'mod questions' header too.

Event Information
To facilitate your plotting for the coming month, here's a quick preview of the February event, which will be Valentine's themed! Love Potion #9 will take place during a love-themed festival in Sunset Falls while the characters are touring their new housing. Your opt-out option is to not be in Sunset Falls at that time.

The main thrust of the event is a love spell that will push characters into rom-com trope scenarios like Meet Cutes, as well as prompting confessions of real (and manufactured) feelings. Not just romantic love confessions, but also the compulsion to just tell people how you really feel — family, friendship. Get sappy!

The event will also include options for bizarre effects as a result of some of the festival food. Effects include exceptional boldness, emoji eyes, and fireworks when touching.

Form
Please use the form below to pitch your character-specific plots and ideas.

Player Name & Pronouns:
Preferred Communication: Plurk, Discord, DM, etc.

Guild Affiliation:
Plot/CR Hooks: What kinds of things does your character get up to that might throw them in the path of someone else's plot, or that you would like other players to engage with?
Character Motivations: What does your character want? You can list short term and long term goals, but also emotional needs that aren't being fulfilled.
Potential Roles: What role does your character play in their canon plot? What role might they play in others' plots, and what would it take to get their attention? Are they an antagonist, a researcher, a tech whiz?

Player Name & Pronouns: tifa (she/they)
Preferred Communication: [plurk.com profile] protects

Character Name & Journal: alina starkov ([personal profile] sunmon)
Guild Affiliation: None
Plot/CR Hooks:
Alina isn't up to a ton of shenanigans right now — avoiding responsibility, getting acclimated at school — but she makes a good damsel in distress, and she's generally a troublemaker, so if anyone wants to go Snooping Where They Don't Belong, she's your girl. Especially if it means looking for bad stuff about the Guardian Alliance.

Character Motivations:
Emotionally, Alina wants to feel like she's important and loved and worthy — at first she fills this by being the sun saint, but discovers that it dehumanizes her. So she wants to be seen as a whole person. To this end, she's avoiding joining up with the Guardian Alliance because she isn't ready to confront her discomfort with the idea of enslaving herself to Selfless Heroism right now.

Potential Roles:
Alina is a cartographer, saint, and reckless teenager, so she's got a lot of room to kickstart things if people need someone to stick their foot in something. She's pretty self-involved generally, but she'd help anyone who asked out of feelings of responsibility. She can be an antagonist in a girl fight because she's deeply insecure. She can also be a damsel in distress or offer a shield for ... whatever.

Plot Ideas:
At some point I really want to run a plot that involves a cult who worships the PCs who arrived in the Confluences, because Saint, but I don't have it very fleshed out. I'm thinking that it could involve kidnapping them, which might necessitate depowering to function as a game-wide plot. I'd like help fleshing this out.

Roles Needed:
Kidnappees, someone with ideas for how to depower characters (I think MCU!Peter Parker is interested in this part based on a technopathy thing), NPC development, people who'd take advantage of said cult and try to use it, people who'd try to escape and maybe get dead. Idk this is very early development.

Character Name & Journal: shaedra valorum ([personal profile] hydaelyns)
Guild Affiliation: Guardian Alliance
Plot/CR Hooks:
Shaedra does deliveries of all kinds on her chocobo, so she's easy to stumble upon people. She also has shadow/darkness powers related to dealing out punishment and withstanding it as well as healing magic, so she can be your tank or your healer. She also has moderate psychic/psychometric powers that let her see glimpses of people's memories, so please opt-in if you're interested.

Character Motivations:
Adventure!! The best thing about Shaedra is that she's down for pretty much whatever. She would like to get home because her friends are still In Danger, but she's also somebody who just enjoys new experiences, so she's here to try new things.

Potential Roles:
Shaedra is often the Big Damn Hero who does the dirty work and fights the big monsters for others. She's self-sacrificing and takes too much of other people's burdens onto herself to try to save them at the cost of her, so if you need somebody to shoulder consequences of some bad choices through Magic, she's your girl.

Plot Ideas: Eventually I want to do something related to primal-summoning (gods in FFXIV are summoned by belief) but I think I want to give that time first, so I'll probably focus on smaller scale sidequest fare for now. Maybe mission board things.
Roles Needed: NO IDEA YET, honestly

I am a cruel, cruel person, and Jean hates being depowered, so obviously, I have to do it once in the game at least. The sudden silence of not being able to hear those around her and or the rest of the planet basically unhinges her ability to balance, mentally and physically a good bit. She already does not like The White Room because it muffles her powers down to barely there, and just like check-the-box even worse if it cuts off.

Also, the drastic flip of people worshipping those with powers (to the point of fanaticism that involves kidnapping) would baffle her. It'd be so much more likely in her mind for a mutant to be kidnapped and tortured or killed than to be taken by a drove of people who want to toss you all on thrones or in some opulent holy place made specifically good enough to be graced by their Meta presences.

If I get Usagi going I'd love to have her kidnapped.

I'm also down to throw Balthier at either of these, especially the primals.

He's got illusion magic and a hovercraft??

Well, firstly I must say that Matt would 100% embrace being a god figure for a cult. Like he'd go ALL in - there's actually a miniseries where he does just that.

As for the cult itself, I feel like the depowering would work well to keep people there against their will, but if you embrace it maybe they let you have your 'godly' powers back. Which means of course some people could try to fake it but Matt is a telepath who would usually be able to tell so he'd work to keep other metas depowered. Because he's a dick. Like "hey, you guys are not messing this up for me!"

I feel like we'd need a reason to have the metas feel necessary to the cult so maybe something like, they had a chosen one years ago (probably a metahuman conman) who gave them a prophecy about a certain number of metahumans being needed to bring about a Cosmic Event where the cult can ascend to heaven/be gifted their own powers. So then you have a reason to kidnap metas against their will? I'm obviously just spitballing!
